Hi, We had a working morning, Dan changed the impeller on the raw water pump and I did laundry. We headed out at 11:30, all clean, charged up and ready to take on the Dismal Swamp. We chose the DS route after studying all our books about whether to take the VA cut or the Dismal Swamp. We had 5 bridges to open and one we fit under before reaching the lock at the beginning of the DS Canal for the 1:30 lock opening. It raised up 8 feet to meet the canal. We traveled 18 more miles along the canal (VERY narrow and pretty shallow, but also very pretty. We are rafted with 6 other boats at the free dock at the Welcome Center for the night. The day started out sunny and bright, but increasing clouds and a definite chill ended the day. We have an early start because one of the boats that is on the inside (we're three deep at the dock) wants to leave at 7:00! No sailing at all today, and probably not for a while. ~~~(\_~~~M&D

Hello - we're considering going the Dismal Swamp route but draw about 6 ft. How were the depths for you here and what do you draw?
sailors - We draw 5' 9". We did not run aground. We "bumped" lots of stuff including one that did a rap-rap-rap (no more) at the prop. We enjoyed the trip. The NC Welcome Center was a hoot as they have room for 4 on the wall but apparently will raft to 4 + deep if necessary! No one goes thru in the night so no big deal. Have fun.
